Visit the chateaux

The Château de l’Islette

This chateau is on a small island where the River Indre forks. The château was designed by René de Maillé and was built between 1526 and 1530.

In the 1890s, the château was a romantic setting for famous sculptors, Rodin and Camille Claudel, who frequently stayed at the chateau for secret rendezvous’, as the lovers were unmarried.

Nearby is the famous sister chateau, Azay le Rideau, since it is similar in architecture. Both chateaux are well worth a visit where you will be able to take photographs of two beautiful chateaux.

The Chateau D’Ussé – The fairy tale chateau immortalized by Perrault in his story of Sleeping Beauty. A magical experience.

The Royal Fortress of Chinon, where Joan of Arc persuaded the dauphin, the future Charles VII to allow Joan to inspire the French army to seize and deliver Orleans and other strategic places. The rest is history! The Fortress ruin is well worth a visit and the views across Chinon and the Vienne river are a joy!

Other chateaux are at Villandry (a must!), Rivau, Langeais, Saumur, Angers and many more!

Also a visit to Fontevraud Abbey is an enchanting experience.
